Interventions for Dysrhythmias: Step II

 

Description and Target Audience: This workshop is designed to provide health care professionals with the tools to assure that accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms will be made, that life-threatening situations will be recognized and that the appropriate nursing interventions will be initiated for patients. Nurses and respiratory therapists would benefit from attending this program.  Basic rhythm interpretation skills are required to attend this course.

 

Objectives:

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

·         Describe the normal anatomy and physiology of the heart and the cardiac conduction system.

·         Explain the impulse formation and conduction system of the heart.

·         Relate the impulse formation and conduction system of the heart to the EKG deflections.

·         Discuss cardiac dysrhythmia waveforms.

·         Correlate appropriate nursing response for each dysrhythmia.

·         Discuss indication for use, action and dosage of drugs associated with dysrhythmias and resuscitation protocols.

·         Explain the major elements of cardiac electrophysiology.

Location: CoxHealth Education Center, CoxHealth North, K400, 4th Floor, Classroom #1.

 

Directions: Enter Cox North from the Robberson Ave. Northwest Entrance. Upon entering the building turn right and take the elevator to the 4th floor. You will arrive in the Education Center lobby.
